Manufacturing Engineering Technician

Reporting to: Engineering team leader

Implements and maintains methods, operations, sequences and processes to manufacture parts, and assemble sub-assemblies and finished devices

This person will be involved in production support, new product introduction, process development and process validation for a number of product lines across a wide range of CNC controlled and manual production equipment.

In addition to production support, the position will be responsible for providing support technical support for purchasing and planning operations.

Furthermore working with the Process Engineer, the position will involve implementation of process improvements relating to product quality, product cost, process yields, cycle time reduction and manufacturing line efficiencies for current and new processes.

  • Day to Day trouble shooting of manufacturing equipment and process issues ensuring maximum uptime of each machine.
  • Provide training and guidance to production team members on machine operation, use of inspection equipment and basic engineering principles.
  • Establish standards for housekeeping and management of production equipment and tools. Repair of Tools and Dies.
  • Establishment and maintenance of stock levels for all machine consumables (Gas, Abrasives, Wheels etc)
  • Assist the manufacturing engineer in the development of MAPS and procedures.
  • Assist the manufacturing engineer in the design and manufacture of Jigs and Fixtures for process improvement.
  • Assist in the development of new processes and manufacture of prototype parts.
  • Assist the manufacturing engineer in the programming of all CNC equipment.
  • Assist the facilities technician with regular planned maintenance activities.
  • Will assist shop floor teams in resolving manufacturing and quality issues.

  • Will assist in process improvement, production support and troubleshooting on a wide range of CNC controlled and manually operated production equipment.
  • Will form part of an after hours technical support roster group.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Providing development and guidance for Production team members in Engineering principles and mathematics.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate small hand tool, inspection equipment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and/or electrical problem solving skills.
  • Successfully undertaken a Mechanical aptitude examination.
  • 12 Months experience in Operation of Automated Manufacturing equipment
  • Certificate in Mechanical, Production, Electrical, or Industrial desirable.
  • Good computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, data base).
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of CNC Machine Tools and NC programming.
