The Role & What You Will Be Doing
As a Procurement Category Manager for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), you will be responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies to ensure the timely and cost-effective sourcing of high-quality API materials in the pharmaceutical industry. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to identify opportunities, manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and drive procurement savings initiatives. The role requires knowledge of the API market, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to achieve business objectives.

Category Strategy Development:
Review market research and use available databases to analysis supplier capabilities and pricing dynamics in the API category.
Develop and implement category strategies aligned with business objectives, ensuring cost optimization, quality assurance, and supply chain resilience.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as Quality, commercial and Regulatory Affairs, to understand API requirements and align sourcing strategies.
Supplier Management:
Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers capable of meeting quality, compliance, and cost requirements for API materials.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, conducting regular business reviews and ensuring adherence to contractual obligations.
Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements, leveraging volume discounts and long-term partnerships while managing risks associated with supply continuity.
Strategic Sourcing:
Lead end-to-end sourcing activities, including supplier identification, request for proposal (RFP) processes and supplier selection.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define technical specifications, quality standards, and regulatory compliance requirements for API materials.
Implement best practices in procurement, supply chain management, and supplier relationship management.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive innovation and identify alternative sources or technologies for API materials.
Risk Management and Compliance:
Monitor economic and geopolitical factors that may impact the API category.
Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, such as shortages, quality issues, or disruptions in the API market.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards, such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
About Your Skills & Experience
For this role, we’re looking for a candidate who has an effective combination of the following qualifications, skills and experiences:
Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Business Administration, or a related field.
Proven experience (4+ years) in procurement, strategic sourcing, or category management, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.
Strong negotiation and contract management skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with suppliers.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver results within deadlines.
Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
Proficiency in using procurement software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and data analysis tools.
Bachelor's degree
