The Irish labour market experienced significant growth in 2024, with robust economic indicators showcasing increasing opportunities for workers across a diverse range of sectors.

According to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at just 4.1% in November 2024, maintaining levels of near full employment. In Q3 of 2024, Ireland’s unemployment rate was 4.3%, significantly lower than the euro area average of 6.4% and the EU’s 6.0%.

Employment in Ireland reached an all-time high, with a total of 2,785,000 people now employed—an increase of 96,800 jobs in the year to Q3 2024. This growth underscores the strength of Ireland’s economy and the success of government initiatives to foster job creation, promote innovation, and ensure opportunities across all sectors.

Bronagh Cotter, CEO of Recruit.ie, commented on the strong labour market performance:
“Ireland’s workforce is thriving, and 2024 has proven to be a standout year for employment growth. This is not just about numbers; it’s about the creation of meaningful opportunities for individuals and communities. The resilience and adaptability of our economy are reflected in these figures, and we’re proud to support job seekers in connecting with employers who are driving this success.”

This progress is driven by various factors, including Ireland’s appeal as a hub for innovation, its supportive business environment, and targeted investments in education and workforce development.

As Ireland heads into 2025, the outlook remains promising. Sectors such as technology, healthcare, construction, and renewable energy are expected to drive further job creation, reinforcing Ireland’s reputation as one of Europe’s most dynamic labour markets.

For job seekers looking to take advantage of these opportunities, platforms like Recruit.ie provide valuable resources for connecting with employers across the country.

Commenting on the figures, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke TD expressed confidence in the country’s continued economic success, stating:

“2024 marks a year of outstanding progress in the Irish labour market. We are witnessing not only a record number of people in employment but also the growth of industries that are paving the way for a sustainable and dynamic future. It is vital that we continue to build on these successes, ensuring that Ireland remains an attractive and inclusive place for individuals to work, live, and prosper.”
