This optimistic outlook comes from the latest Quarterly Economic Commentary: Summer 2025 report by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI).

According to the commentary, based on anticipated economic growth, Ireland’s employment figures are projected to rise substantially. An increase of 66,000 new jobs is forecast for 2025, followed by an additional 45,000 in 2026.

Furthermore, the ESRI anticipates that the unemployment rate will remain remarkably low, holding steady at just over 4 per cent across the entire forecast horizon.

For employees and job seekers, the news regarding wages is particularly positive. The commentary predicts that nominal wage growth will outpace price inflation in both 2025 and 2026. This trend is expected to result in significant real wage growth, with an impressive 3.5 per cent increase projected for 2025 and a further 2.3 per cent in 2026. This means that workers will see a tangible increase in their purchasing power.

Barrett, A., O’Toole, C., and O’Shea, D. (2025).
