New research from Hays Ireland reveals a disconnect between older employees’ retirement plans and employers’ strategies for retaining mature talent.<\/p>\n

RTE<\/a> has reported that the data which shows that 22% of professionals over 50 intend to retire within 5 years. However, only 38% of employers have discussed retirement plans with them.<\/p>\n

Many older staff prioritize flexible schedules, health benefits, and retirement planning when considering new roles. But less than half of companies currently offer retirement planning, and only 15% provide part-time options specifically for over-50 employees.<\/p>\n

While 72% of employers say they actively recruit older workers, half of mature workers believe their age has hindered job offers before.<\/p>\n

70% of employers insist staff are treated equally regardless of age. But a perception gap persists on both sides.<\/p>\n

As technology rapidly transforms roles, older staff may feel pressured to retire earlier, causing valuable knowledge and experience to vanish. Proactive training and upskilling can prevent this.<\/p>\n

The findings spotlight the need for improved communication between employers and mature staff on retirement plans and priorities. With strategic support, older professionals can continue contributing their expertise.<\/p>\n
