Ireland’s Labour Market Thrives

The latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) reveals a significant employment growth in Ireland’s labour market,

Employment Growth

In the year leading up to the fourth quarter of 2024, the Irish economy added 71,400 jobs, bringing total employment to 2.78 million. This growth was widespread across various regions, with areas outside Dublin experiencing an increase of 48,000 jobs, a 2.5% rise compared to the previous year. Full-time employment saw a substantial uptick of 82,900 positions (3.9% increase), while part-time employment decreased by 11,600 jobs (2.0% decrease) over the same period.

Unemployment Rate Decline

January 2025 witnessed a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.0%, a decrease from the revised rate of 4.5% in December 2024 and from 4.5% in January 2024.

Labour Force Participation

The labour force participation rate in Q4 2024 was 65.5%, slightly up from 65.4% in Q4 2023. Additionally, the total number of hours worked per week increased by 3.1 million hours (3.8% rise) compared to Q4 2023, totaling 85.6 million hours.
